G. R. Gemin - Our Independent Booksellers Week Author 2014

Our Independent Booksellers week author for 2014 was Giancarlo Gemin, who visited the emporium on Thursday 3rd July to speak about his brilliant book Cowgirl. Pupils from Hamstel Junior School made a fabulous audience for an interactive and engaging presentation, and asked some wonderful questions, the most significant being when is the next book out? Giancarlo was a perfect guest, who was so generous with his time with the children and patient with us as we muddled our way through with the technology – definitely not with the greatest of ease.

For anyone who hasn’t read the book, I am not one for spoilers. It is beautifully written and uplifting story that appeals to both genders and all ages 8 plus. It is a story that is relevant to the now, but marries this with proper storytelling and a touch of the magical. Giancarlo’s ethos, to write books about all generations that will appeal to all is one that we share. A good book is one that tells a great story well, and Cowgirl ticks all of the boxes. This book is not like any other that you have read, but once you read it you will wonder why that is?
