At Jacqson Diego Story Emporium we believe in the power of books and stories to change lives. Everything that we do is focused on providing children with their own space and points of wonder from which to develop their own passion for books and stories. This is done on their own terms and in an unpressurised environment, to inspire, spark creativity and unlock opportunity and potential.
What we do
Books are at the heart of the emporium and we find as many different ways as we can to share them in an inclusive way, because every child is unique and on their own story path. We are the facilitators on their journey, so whether they are participating in a visit to a pop-up book shop, a story time, an author visit, a book club or a project with a school, all of our activities are led by the interests of the children taking part. We often use creative play and arts and crafts as a means for children to develop their opinions and ideas, alongside discussion, creative questioning, flights of fancy, mismatched subjects, and the power of cake.
Whether we are working alone or in a creative partnership with another arts organistation, a school or in the community the children participating are central. We never worry about a project being unfinished, a child’s reading ability or ‘right’ answers. As books take us on journeys, we encourage children of all ages to enjoy the ride and notice the scenery; to recognise that their individual journey is unique and to share and listen to others generously. Every child we meet is accepted as an individual and their ideas are listened to as if they are the most important thing that matters: because they are.
What makes us different?
As a company limited by guarantee, Jacqson Diego Story Emporium is run on a not for profit basis. This means that Jacqson Diego Story Emporium is owned by the community that uses it and it is managed by its staff for their benefit. Any profit that the company makes remains in the company, and is used to subsidise where possible and expand our ability to provide more opportunities to more children.
Our strength is found in being able to match children with the book and story activities that inspire them. At any one time we are working with a number of different organisations to provide as many opportunities as we can to the children in our community. If you would like to find out more about what we do, sign up for our newsletter via the form below or find us on Facebook.
If you are interested in forming a creative partnership with us for a project please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please note we are not in a position to offer funding to other organisations at this time.
We are members of the Bookseller’s Association and fully validated by the Children’s University.
We hope you’ll start a new story with us soon!
