About Us

Jacqson Diego Story Emporium belongs to every child who has imagined a story. Set up in 2011, in response to a discussion with some young people, it is an independent bookshop that is completely child centric, a place where children can discover and explore books just for fun. Where they can find the means to live their dreams, find themselves and realise opportunity through the ownership of books and stories on their own terms. We are fully inclusive and try to ensure that every child, their friends and family are reflected on our shelves, and every aspiration can be found. As a social enterprise, the company is completely not for profit, and provides as many ways for children to be curious and explore books as possible. By supporting us, you are supporting the community, and we thank you.

Our award winning children’s bookshop is filled with books, stories and oodles of imagination, creativity and wonder for young people from birth to 16 years. Our space brings together everything we do to inspire children and young people through books and stories on their own terms. From the widest range of books we can champion, to book clubs, writing groups, storytimes and a range of events throughout the year, we celebrate books for the whole family and support schools and community projects in as many ways we can think of.

As Southend's only independent bookshop, our shelves of both fiction and non-fiction, picture book and chapter, are perfect for a browse and our staff are experts on matching children with the right book and offering specialist advice. We receive new stock daily and - as we can't fit everything we wish for on our shelves - we can order in any book that is in print for both children and adults alike, so once you are part of our community, we will grow with you.
